Ceremonial handing over of a renewed emergency patient care department in the St. Damjan Greek Catholic Hospital took place in Kisvárda on 16th of December, 2022 within the "Cross-border cooperation for the care of high-risk patients" project.

The St. Damjan Greek Catholic Hospital in co-operation with the Municipal non-comercial enterprise “Uzhhorod city multidisciplinary clinical hospital” of Uzhhorod city council are reconstructing their emergency and intensive care units, equipping those with new medical devices in frame of project "Cross-border cooperation for the care of high-risk patients" (2HOSP1BORHIGHRISK).

Partners are developing uniform protocols and practices, which ensures that, regardless of which side of the border one lives or stays, (s)he will be cured in the same manner in both hospitals in case of urgency. Medical devices to be purchased (e.g. defibrillator, fiberscope, bedside ultrasound) contribute to the raising of the standard of patient care. On the Hungarian side, among the others, the patient waiting room and the ambulance station were expanded and renovated, and a new triage room and examiners were created.

Since the start of the Russian military agression against Ukraine, refugees who require hospital care are primarily treated in the hospital of Kisvárda in the border region, and from now on, they are accepted in the renovated emergency department. The cooperation of the two hospitals is of particular importance during the war, which made the project ceremony even more special.
