The projects targets the light pollution problem. In contrast with others environmental loads, useless light scattered in the atmosphere is easy to remove. It is enough to switch of the source of light. Of course modern civilization can’t exist without artificial illumination of streets, buildings, industrial parks… Fortunately the ways how to reduce the impact of the light on nightlife exist. The problem is the awareness. The majority of the population even don’t know that excessive lighting is harmful. The situation is slightly better among public bodies. The municipalities know that using correct lightning they save energy. Also some regulation exist about reconstruction of street lighting, especially in Slovakia and Hungary.
So the main objective is to increase the awareness of the light pollution problem between our target groups in concerned region. These are public institutions (municipalities, cultural institutions….) students of basic and high schools, tourists. Geographically the project is focused on 3 national parks and its surroundings. In these areas the level of light pollution is relatively low. So there is a chance to use them as good example and to promote the advantages of life below natural night sky.
The main beneficiary of the project will be the inhabitants of the concerned region. We expect the low level of light pollution here will be preserved for the future. The astro-tourism will grow, local people will believe in the usefulness of doing business in nature friendly tourism.
In the project implementation we will use classical and also some innovative methods of education. Classical lectures on conferences and seminars, but also electronic surveys on internet, social media to announce the results of light pollution measurements. The measurements itself will be performed in innovative way. Mobile methodology was developed by the Hungarian partner. The lead applicant will measure the spectral energy distribution of the sky brightness.
