Cross-border harmonized response to risks and disasters

This project represents an integrated approach of Moftin Commune (Ro), Vàsàrosnameny Local Self-Government (Hu) and Vishkovo Local Council (Ua) to identify, assess and reduce risks associated with hazards and human activities that threaten cross-border territory, and to find solutions to act jointly in case of disasters. One of the main hazard challenges that this territory is facing is floods and river-related disasters (due to Tisa-Someș-Crasna river basin). Historical floods are unfortunately common for each of the 3 partners. In some cases, floods are so serious and gather such a large amount of water that some communities become isolated for days. Another common hazard for the target territory is wood, vegetation and rural grassfire risks. This risk is more pressing as there are areas where the danger is doubled by the existence of some gas deposits. Both floods and fire can easily spread across the border producing losses. In detail, the project foresees the organization of several activities (exchange of experience, meetings with stakeholders, drills, prevention activities for inhabitants, equipment purchase, building specific emergency infrastructure etc) to facilitate the development of a harmonized approach for the emergency services quality increasing in the CB area. Partners aim to enhance the human safety level of the populations from the CB region and thus, to reduce the social, economic and environmental costs of natural disasters. Due to this project RMI for 3 communities will become better, 25.000 inhabitants will benefit of flood and fire protection services as a direct consequence of the support, the level of population knowledge on the preparedness for emergencies and disasters will increase for approx. 10.000 people, 15 Cooperation agreements will be signed for a long term between organisations in disaster management. Project implementation duration is 20 months.
