The common challenge is to embrace modernization through the improvement of existing road communications for both applicants. On the Slovak side the proposal is to reconstruct road II/558 in the section between Stakčín to Ulič, which is a joint I/74 road that heads to the border crossing Ubľa - Malyj Bereznyj. On the Ukrainian side, the reconstruction of the P53 road that leads from Ubľa - Malyj Bereznyj state border to the H13 road junction, which is 2.8 km in length, and the reconstruction of the H13 route in the section between Malyj Berezny to Dubrynych, which is 8.8 km in length, is proposed. The main objective of the project is to improve the traffic-technical parameters of communications, to improve traffic flow and road safety, to improve the environment in the vicinity of existing communications, to improve the accessibility for work and amenities of affected municipalities, and to increase the travelling comfort of road users. The main objective of the project is also to improve the accessibility of Slovak and Ukrainian border regions, to optimize the connection to superior road network and to upgrade the transport infrastructure that leads to the border and also exceeds beyond the border in order to increase the mobility of transported persons, goods and services. Output and result of the project is the reconstruction of 8,373 km of roads and to repair 2 bridge objects on the Slovak side and the reconstruction of 11,57 km of roads and to repair 1 bridge object in the Ukrainian side . Improving the technical state of road communications will have a positive impact on the intensification of local economic activities related to transport, tourism, social affairs and international transport on both sides of the border from which will benefit all target groups living in the region as well as tourists and border crossing passengers. The project will be implemented on the basis of the Slovak - Ukrainian partnership, which meets the cross - border characteristics of the project which will have the task of reducing the negative impacts of the cross - border connection and will eliminate the present barriers for accessing the state border. An innovative element in the project on the Ukrainian side will be the use of stone cement asphalt, which will be used for the first time in the districts of Velyky Bereznyy.
An innovative element on the Slovak side will be the stabilization of bridge pillars by means of special micro-pile foundations. The project is an innovative solution in terms of the technical solutions used. Innovation is an integrated view of the Applicant and Partner who see the cross-border road system as a one unit. Despite the fact that part of the project is located on the border, it does not only apply to the border area. In future perspectives this will give rise to new opportunities and challenges that have not been possible to implement prior to overcoming challenges in the mentioned areas. The joint realization of this project will mobilize partnership on both sides of the border to create a sense of co-ownership and fellowship.
